It's so great to have you here. Please feel free to take a look around and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Founded in 2010, Baby Buddha Photography was one of the very first dedicated newborn studios established in the Geelong region.

At a time when the idea of newborn photography as an independent genre was still in its infancy, Baby Buddha Photography grew to accrue a loyal clientele and a steadfast reputation for dedication and professionalism within the industry.

Through our Pure Newborn & Outdoor Newborn Sessions, we continue to create the natural newborn images our studio has become synonymous with.

In addition to customised newborn portraiture, Baby Buddha Photography also offers Family and Maternity sessions.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Meeting so many babies in my line of work, it’s common to see a selection of the same names pop up again and again and I certainly don’t need to see a Top Ten list to know which names are the most popular for any given year 😉  So when my client, Emma, contacted me to say she’d had her baby girl, I was pleasantly surprised and instantly enamoured by her choice of name – Fern.  Such a pretty name with the distinction of being a little bit different but not awkwardly so.

The popularity of your child’s name can determine whether they’re referred to by their given name or whether they’re relegated to having the first initial of your surname permanently tacked on to help differentiate them from others  baring the same name.  I once taught a Year 2 class with three Ashley/Ashlee/Ashleighs… and an Alysha.  That very same class also had two Bens, two Jakes, a Ryan and a Rohan.  Confusing much?

Then there was the class where it felt like every second parent had decided to randomly stick an ‘h’ in their child’s name.  Dakodah, Mahly, Tarah, Amilyah…that last one is pronounced ‘Amelia’, FYI.

Ask any teacher who has gone on to become a parent and I’m sure they’ll willingly admit that choosing a name for their own baby was an arduous task.  A name can unintentionally suggest a lot about a person but never more so than during those formative primary school years.  When you’re a teacher, many names are struck off potential lists based on students you’ve previously taught or those who’ve seen the inside of the Principal’s office one too many times, and often whole segments of the baby name book will be completely overlooked purely because those particular names begin with a wholly undesirable letter.

Back when I used to teach, it was the letters ‘J’ and ‘D’ for boys’ names that caused many of my colleagues to shudder as they cast an eye over their class list for the year ahead.  Joshua, Jayden, Jacob, Jake, Dylan, Daniel…just some of the names that used to bring grief to the classroom.  I’m sure they grew up to be lovely boys…haha.

But back to Fern and for any teachers out there following along, I can reveal that she and her beautiful family were absolute delights and you’ve nothing to fear here!

Baby Fern had a Pure Newborn Session in our Highton-based, natural-light studio.  You can find out more about these sessions HERE

The Rodda Family

Not many people would realise this but when I first started shooting, I was primarily a family photographer.  Somehow, over time, my business evolved into being predominantly newborns.  And while I LOVE capturing brand new babes and the convenience of working in the studio, I’ve really missed shooting on location.

So when Tash (the gorgeous face behind Adorable Me Photography) and I were planning her newborn/family shoot, I was thrilled when she expressed an interest in venturing outdoors.  Despite there still being a chill in the air, we had a fantastic time and captured possibly waaaaaaay too many images (is there such a thing?)  Here’s a very small sample 🙂 K x

Emme + Ivy

Where is this ‘spring’ they speak of?  I’m not sure about you but we’re still wearing beanies over here and it doesn’t look like the weather is in a hurry to warm up.

The girls and I did a bit of impromptu location scouting over the weekend, which typically means that I’ve seen something I like as we’ve driven by and made them vacate the car 😉  Luckily my two nature lovers are generally happy to humour me and need very little persuasion to go forth and explore while I take some test shots.

Baby Jory

How cute is this little family!  I loved it when Tiera pulled out some gorgeous timber blocks with the letters of Jory’s name.  It’s such a nice idea to personalise a session with something that your little one will hold as a keepsake forever.

Baby Florence ~ Little Sitter

When Florence came in for her Little Sitter Session the first thing I noticed was her stunning blue eyes and those squishy little thighs – I just wanted to squeeze her!

The 8-10mth stage is hands down my favourite, well, second only to the newborn stage.  I love when they’re on the cusp of crawling but are not yet too mobile; when they’re full of smiles and express delight and wonder in pretty much everything.  And I can’t forget to mention the cuddles.  Every beautiful, squishy one of them.

You’re just the cutest, Florence!
